What you got in that van? What in the world's in that van?

I admit that at least 70% of the motivation for this post was, indeed, the title. Eat your heart out, Luda.

As you know, we recently removed everything out of  the van and separated the stuff that will stay from the stuff that will go away.

Here is the pile of stuff that we actually used during the trip:

VanLoad: Used

Here is the pile of stuff that we did not use, but that we are still going to keep because of utility, sentimentality, or some other reason:

A_VanLoad: Keepers

And here is the pile that will be going off to Goodwill*:

VanLoad: Junk

For some unknown reason, I decided that it might be fun to take a picture of every... single... item... in the van. Near the end of this exercise I questioned my sanity, but I persisted in my efforts and here are the results (10 random items chosen by flickr):

    I totally want that Rapid Interpretation of EKG's book!! Where did you get that? Seriously, it's like one of the most used books in the area of my job!!

    Haha! Jon's friend Chris was throwing it out when we were visiting him (he's an orthopod) and his wife in LA so I grabbed it thinking I would take it apart to make cards or something. I never did so it made it into the Goodwill pile. It's yours!! We'll probably have to deliver it to you in January, though, as it is now in Maryland at Jon's sisters house and we won't be back there until the holidays. But we'll have his sister save it from the outgoing box!!

I spy...

I was looking for directions on Google Maps today when I realized that Google had just added "birds-eye" views for Fort Collins. So, of course, I went to see what our home looks like. Much to my surprise, I found that Google just happened to catch us on the morning of March 29, 2012. Our moving day! So, you better think twice before deciding to run around naked in your back yard. You never know when the aerial photography plane is going to fly by!

Beauty Anxiety

I am spending quite a bit of time thinking and planning what I am going to put in my travel backpack. There isn't going to be a lot of room so I am taking a tip from Ottsworld and planning to leave my vanity behind . I have to admit, the idea of leaving my makeup behind makes me uncomfortable. Not because I want to wear makeup everyday but because it's a security blanket. It provides the ability to fit in if I need to and to escape the feeling that I am not participating in the unwritten rules of being a woman. Please note that parts of this site are NSFW. But on the flip side, I'll be saving money. I found an article in Newsweek that estimated the lifetime cost of "cosmetic maintenance" . Even if I normally spend a half to a third of this amount, that's still quite a bit quite a bit of money.
