I am spending quite a bit of time thinking and planning what I am going to put in my travel backpack. There isn't going to be a lot of room so I am taking a tip from Ottsworld and planning to leave my vanity behind.
I have to admit, the idea of leaving my makeup behind makes me uncomfortable. Not because I want to wear makeup everyday but because it's a security blanket. It provides the ability to fit in if I need to and to escape the feeling that I am not participating in the unwritten rules of being a woman.
Don't believe me that there is a beauty standard in this country? Check this out:

But on the flip side, I'll be saving money. I found an article in Newsweek that estimated the lifetime cost of "cosmetic maintenance". Even if I normally spend a half to a third of this amount, that's still quite a bit quite a bit of money.
Tinted moisturizer!!

@Liz - Tinted moisturizer is actually exactly what I usually use...maybe I'll just sneak that one in there... :)
ReplyDelete@Deirdre - Isn't it crazy? There is such a huge disconnect between what is portrayed as the beauty standard and what is real. Thanks for the link!
Very interesting post, makes me proud of my low maintenance ways :) I am more than happy with my bare minerals foundation powder (highly suggest that), a tiny tube of mascara (whatever is on sale) and a dash of bronzer or blush for color; moisturizer when necessary. I'm 100% with you on the greasy hair thing, let me know what you find that works because I can't even sleep one night without waking up a grease ball.
ReplyDeleteKim - I'll definitely let you know about the cornstarch! I have yet to try it but have very high hopes. And I am just torn. Should I bring a few items (similar to your list) or should I just go for it without anything? I really want to go with nothing (getting ready in the morning has become guy-fast when I don't dry my hair or put on any makeup) but I really kind of feel naked with ANYTHING on, you know? But on the flip side, my skin is actually looking much clearer (i.e. I haven't had a pimple or any kind of breakout in three weeks). I haven't decided if it's because I'm not wearing makeup so it's healthier or if it's because I'm so much less stressed now. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteI find the transition to nothing very simple since I started using the bare minerals, it feels like you have nothing on even when you do so now I just use it to even out my skin tone not really for coverage. I also have very few problems with breakouts which I LOVE. It's $25 bucks and it lasts me about 3 months; the brush is good for forever but another $25 bucks initially. Haha hard to say if it's the no makeup or no stress, either way that's great. Good luck, I'm looking forward to some positive feedback about the greasy hair thing since that is my arch nemesis, the one thing that limits my complete transition to guy fast getting ready and sleep maximization!!
ReplyDeleteArgh, now I'm tempted! I only have $50/month in discretionary spending and have already spent $16 this month. I may have to save up for that... :)
