I'm So Vain

Remember when I told you that I was going to leave my vanity (and makeup) behind? Hahahaha! I just love it when I make predictions about how my future is going to be and then put them in writing so I can look back and see how wrong I was!

It turns out that I may be the teensiest tiniest bit vain. And unable to leave said vanity behind.

Here's what I now know about myself:

I can go forever without makeup while physically traveling, in National Parks or in other rural environments. But get me in a city or out on the town with friends and I just want to look less...splotchy. So I caved and while in Minneapolis (at the Mall of America, no less), purchased something recommended to me by my fabulous friend Kim: mineral foundation.

Holy crap, this stuff is amazing! It takes about two minutes to apply and makes me look like I have really good skin. I would venture to say that it may be the perfect traveling makeup. Of course, I've been using it for less than a week and thus a prediction like that may be considered premature and unwise. But what I lack in ability to learn from my mistakes, I make up for in enthusiasm!

Mineral foundation is awesome! You should try it out! It will change your life!

  2. lol! It's so invisible that men could actually use it, too!

I seriously don't know how I went this long without it. It's one of those head-slap moments when I wonder why I waited so long. I'm also very happy to hear that you've been using it for three years and still love it - makes me feel more confident in my prediction! :)

    Viva la beauty, indeed!!

  4. Have you tried the Warmth yet? Or the Pure Radiance? Pure Radiance is awesome for outings (weddings, etc) where there will be pictures taken... Makes your complexion just glow. Sooo easy! Glad you found something easy that still makes you feel like a girl :)

P.S. Just don't apply it in the van on a bumpy road-- powder everywhere!

  6. @Kim - you are definitely fabulous!! :) I'm glad to hear that you, too, have had great results for so long. I read a review that said it caused irritation after a couple of years and am so glad to hear that is not universal. And we will most likely be going through TX in January-ish 2011 and would love to eat your food, sleep in your beds and use up all of your hot water!

@Liz - lol! The bumpy road advice is good! I bought a starter kit that had the Warmth in it and I use it as color for my cheeks. Fantastic! I haven't tried Pure Radience but will definitely check it out. We're going to a wedding in July so it sounds like I have a reason to get it! :)

  8. LOL I was going to suggest that you avoid the other BM products because they are quite addictive. I won't confess how many I have but will admit that I love them all. The eye shadows double as liner (just use a wet brush), and contour also (more on the lid, less on the arch). Fabulous. Definitely stay away from DiorShow mascara also.

  9. @Anonymous - I have to admit that DiorShaw mascara is actually one of the few makeup items I did sneak into my traveling bag! I'll have to check out the other BM products...I do have that wedding in July. :)

I spy...

I was looking for directions on Google Maps today when I realized that Google had just added "birds-eye" views for Fort Collins. So, of course, I went to see what our home looks like. Much to my surprise, I found that Google just happened to catch us on the morning of March 29, 2012. Our moving day! So, you better think twice before deciding to run around naked in your back yard. You never know when the aerial photography plane is going to fly by!

DIY Wort Chiller

So, when shopping around online for a wort chiller for home brewing, we found the following prices: $65 @ Midwest (plus shipping) $70 @ Northern (plus shipping) $39 @ Amazon (plus shipping) So, off to the hardware store... 3/8" (internal diameter) Vinyl Tubing (10 feet) = $4.15 Sink to hose adapter (varies based on your type of sink) = $4.79 3/8" X 20' Copper Tubing = $24.13 Vinyl Hose Coupler = $2.49 Hose clamps (x2)  = $1.70 Band-aids (x2 or x3 or x4) = $1.00 For a total of $38.26 (pre-tax, no shipping), we decided to roll our own. Here's how it went down... ( vid link ) And, of course, there is the joy of having made something all by yourself! Priceless & fun!

Chickens Are Scarier Than Crows, Didn't You Know?

The garden is in!  If our Scarechicken does its job, we will soon have a nice crop of heirloom tomatoes, onions, hot peppers, green beans, basil, parsley and thyme! Huge thanks to my parents for their help getting the area ready. It was a jungle!
