In the Beginning...

And we are off! After a quick visit to the myopractor and a yummy breakfast at Los Taquitos, we picked up Asher and pointed the van (+ trailer) north. Destination: Albuquerque, NM.

So it turns out that there's a ginormous storm cloud covering Arizona and New Mexico right now. The rain in Phoenix turned into snow in Flagstaff and ice in New Mexico. Yikes.

There were a few stretches where we were literally skating. We couldn't turn or we would skid and we couldn't brake or we would skid. A tiny bit unnerving, to say the least.

But Jon did a fantastic job of driving and we are now (nine hours later), safe and sound in a lovely La Quinta hotel room.

Now it's time for sleep. Sweet dreams, everyone!

  1. Love the video! Have I said yet how excited I am for you? Probably only about 7 times...

  2. I can't see the video because the bandwidth in my curry hotel sucks, but great to see you guys have gotten to Destination #1 (out a million) safe and sound. We flew over the Grand Canyon and I was surprised at how much snow is still up there. That said, having green or red chili with your bfast this morn' in ABQ is a must. Do it! - O

  3. @Taben-Thanks! The second video (the bandwidth in our green chili hotel sucks, too) should be coming soon. No singing in that one but some laughing at how ridiculous the conditions were. :)

@Omer-Good point! We can't go through Hatch Chili Headquarters and not get some!!

I spy...

I was looking for directions on Google Maps today when I realized that Google had just added "birds-eye" views for Fort Collins. So, of course, I went to see what our home looks like. Much to my surprise, I found that Google just happened to catch us on the morning of March 29, 2012. Our moving day! So, you better think twice before deciding to run around naked in your back yard. You never know when the aerial photography plane is going to fly by!

Chickens Are Scarier Than Crows, Didn't You Know?

The garden is in!  If our Scarechicken does its job, we will soon have a nice crop of heirloom tomatoes, onions, hot peppers, green beans, basil, parsley and thyme! Huge thanks to my parents for their help getting the area ready. It was a jungle!

What's in Your Backpack?

I'm on a roll in the advice giving department so I'm going to keep going and pass along another hard-earned tip. This time the topic is clothing and the secret that I am about to share with you is HUGE . It might just save you money and months of psychic distress. The topic is travel clothing and the secret is... Pack the clothes that you like to wear. I know, I know, this may seem like the most obvious advice ever, kind of along the lines of Save Money, Live Better or Drink Water, Be Less Thirsty. But preparing for a long trip alters your brain. You get excited and in America, getting excited makes you want to buy things. Things like special anti-microbial underwear . And jackets that stuff into little pouches. And moderately ugly but extremely comfortable walking shoes . So you start your trip with your new purchases and with some durable, casual clothing that you feel will hold up to the rigorous experience of being washed in someone else's washing machine.
